Congratulations to Ghadi Al Hajj for successfully defending his PhD thesis and achieving the degree of Philosophiae Doctor at the University of Oslo on September 16th 2024!

By Petter Bjørklund, Communication Advisor at SFI Visual Intelligence

Al Hajj is a researcher at University of Oslo and the research centre. His thesis, "Improving the Generalization of Machine Learning Models through the Incorporation of Domain Priors and Constraints", focuses on causality and domain knowledge.

Specifically, the thesis introduces a Python tool for simulating data based on causal structures and explores how causal insights can enhance machine learning models with the help of that tool. Finally, it investigates how external domain knowledge can improve deep learning models, with a case from immunodiagnostics.

The title of Al Hajj's trial lecture was "Diffusion Models".
