Director Robert Jenssen gave Minister Aasland an overview of Visual Intelligence's innovation areas, emphasizing the centre's focus on researching novel deep learning solutions within medicine and health, marine science, earth observation, and the energy sector in close collaboration with our industry and public sector partners.

Jenssen presented a handful of innovations originating from the centre, including methods for breast cancer screening, ship detection, classifying microfossils for carbon capture and storage purposes, and monitoring power line infrastructures in Norway.

Jenssen told the Minister that our industry partners have already benefitted significantly from the close-knit partnership with academic partners UiT, University of Oslo, and the Norwegian Computing Center

Additionally, Aasland got to hear about the centre's current international collaborations with leading AI research institutions such as The Alan Turing Institute and Pioneer Centre for AI.

After the presentation, Minister Aasland asked Jenssen questions about his and the centre's experiences with collaborating with industry and access to data and computing power.

Thanks to Minister Aasland for taking the time to hear about Visual Intelligence's work toward developing the next generation of AI and deep learning methodologies in close collaboration with industry and the public sector.

The presentation took place as part of an introductory meeting between the Minister and UiT rectorate at the Administration Building at UiT Tromsø.
